New York City Dance Instructor:
Valeria Solomonoff


Intro and Bio:
Born and raised in Argentina, Valeria Solomonoff has studied tango, modern dance, ballet and choreography. She was twice awarded first prize for her solo choreographies at Argentinean dance festivals. Upon arriving in the United States in 1994, she has focused on merging modern dance technique with tango’s improvisational structure.

In 1996, she co-founded with four other woman, the first all-woman tango ensemble, TangoMujer. The group debuted at Symphony Space, has performed in Europe and toured the United States in 2000 with the support of two NEFA grants.

Ms. Solomonoff work with traditional tango, her tango solos and appearances with TangoMujer has been praised by publications as diverse as the New York Times, Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer and Berlin Morgen Post in Germany. She has performed for dignitaries and heads of state such as the President of Argentina at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York and, most recently, at the US State Department in Washington, DC. Other venues where she performed include Lincoln Center, Town Hall and Jacobs Pillow, perhaps the most prestigious dance festival in the United States. She shared the stage with the Connecticut Grand Opera, Quintango, Avantango, Eternal Tango and with Pablo Zinger. She has choreographed for theatrical productions and television.

Valeria completed dance programs at the following schools: Alvin Ailey, Peridance Center, Nikolais and Louis Dance lab, Jennifer Muller/The Works and Mark Morris. Valeria has taught and performed in New York for eight years. Besides participating in Tango Festivals across America, she taught at colleges such as New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and Smith College, Mass. In addition, she has been a Guest Artist at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass.
