Boston Dance Instructor:
Fernanda Cajide

Intro and Bio:
Fernanda was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1976. She inherited the passion for Tango from her grandfather, who was an authentic "milonguero".
At the young age of 5 she started taking dance lessons. Her background includes ballet and jazz dance studies in some of the most renowned dance studios in Buenos Aires such as Noemi Coelho- Rodolfo Olguin and Olga Kirowa Dance Studio.

Dancing Tango would suddenly become a professional activity for Fernanda in 1996. Having started with lessons just a few moths before, she would begin an intensive training to sub her teachers in classes and performances. These experiences made her realize that dancing Tango had a special meaning for her. It was her vocation.

Fernanda's main instructors were Sabrina and Rubén Véliz. Considered by critics to be one of today's finest tango dancers, Sabrina and Rubén performed all over the world as part of important Tango companies such as "Nueva Compañía Tangueros", and "Tango Emocion" directed by Mora Godoy.

In1999 Fernanda had the great opportunity to perform and teach for almost one year with the renowned Tango dancer Angel Coria. With an extensive career as a performer and as a teacher, Coria is also one of the first dancers in the film "Tango" by Carlos Saura. So Angel Coria as Angela Toñanez had vital importance in Fernanda's professional development

Fernanda's performance experience includes shows in some of the most popular tango clubs of Buenos Aires such as "El Viejo Almacen" and "La Cumparsita".
As an instructor she taught in dance studios, colleges, cultural centers and clubs.

In the mean time, Fernanda studied music at the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires. Her music education includes piano, voice and choral conducting studies. She conducted her own choir "Ictus" for two years, performing in different venues in Buenos Aires. Fernanda also participated in the choir of the opera "Fidelio" at the Margarita Xirgus theater in Buenos Aires 1997. This musical background gives Fernanda a valuable source of interpretation as a dancer.

In 2001 Fernanda moved to Boston MA with her husband Bernardo Monk who had got a scholarship from Berklee College of Music. Fernanda quickly began performing in high demand along New England, becoming soon one of the most acclaimed Tango dancers in the area. She performed in many "Argentine Nights" as well as Latin-culture festivals. She also danced in Argentine singer Katy Viqueira's show.

Fernanda is currently part of "Mass Tango". This group was co-founded with her husband Bernardo Monk. Mass Tango has an increasing popularity in New England due to its unique blend of dance and traditional music. With Mass Tango Fernanda performed at the Berklee International Folk Festival (2002), Latin American Festival at Lowell MA (2002), Argentinean Night at MIT (2003), Zeitgeist Gallery (2004). Fernanda is also one of the most active instructors in Boston.

Fernanda's performing and teaching experience, as well as her deep knowledge of the style make her a genuine example of the true Argentine Tango spirit.
