Tango Museums


Tango museums are places where everyone can learn about the culture, traditions and milestones of the Argentine Tango. In Buenos Aires, a number of old residences of tango stars have been made into museums after their death.

Tango Museums:
Museo Vivo del Tango:
Piedras 720 (Centro).
In the Museum of Live Tango you will find pictures and objects of the greatest tango stars and all kinds of things related to the tango history. There are special rooms dedicated to Carlos Gardel, Anibal Troilo, Astor Piazzolla and Roberto Goyeneche.
Hours: Mon. to Sun. from 2.00pm to 8.00pm. Tango lessons: Mon. to Wed. at 7:30pm and Thu. to Sun. at 7:00pm.
Dinner and Show Thu. to Sat. at 9:30pm.

Casa Museo Carlos Gardel:
Jean Jaures 735 (Abasto).
The place where "El Zorzal Criollo" lived with his mother Berta, from 1927 until his death in 1935, opened as a museum in March 2003. The house has been completely restored. It is a typical house of the Abasto district: large, low and narrow. You will find a huge collection of objects that Gardel used everyday during all those years.
Hours: Mon, Wed, Thu, Fri. from 1.00pm to 5.00pm.

Museo Manoblanca:
Tabare 1371 (Pompeya).
The perfect place to admire the work of Homero Manzi, the history of the district of Pompeya, and the exhibition of antique objects.
Hours: Mon. to Fri. 8am to 11am & 2.00pm to 5.00pm.

La Botica del Angel:
Luis Saenz Pena 541 (Monserrat).
In this informal museum, there is a collection of works by painters, writers and musicians that promote Argentine oddities and contradictions.
Here you will find costumes, tango classes, documentaries and videos of performances.

Museo de la Casa del Teatro:
Av. Santa Fe 1243 (Montserrat).
Just for real Gardel fans, this luxury building has a small two-rooms-museum with some Gardel's documents, photographies, objects, letters and clothes.
Hours: Mon. to Thu. 4.00pm to 6.00pm. Call for guided visits.
